About the Author
A native of Baoding in Hebei Province and a member of Manchu, one of China's 55 thmc minority groups, Zhang Chaoyin was born in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province in 1958. He took a graduate program jointly conducted by the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University of Australia and China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1998, and later earned his Master of Visual Arts. He is now an editor with the Ethnic Publishing House in Beifing. Since 1994, Zhang has held photo exhibitions in Beifing, Lanzhou, Hong Kong, as well as California of the United States, and Sydney and Brisbane in Australia. Among his publications are picture albums of T/se Lapidarian Art of Chinese Tibetans, Magnificent Pakistan, and Chinese Landscapes. His monumental works of the ten-volume Chinese Tibetans is now under editing. Over the past 20 years and more, Zhang has taken a huge amount of pictures of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and collected plenty of materials about it. The related photo reports he has filed have been extensively usde by domestic and overseas media. He has participated in several international seminars on Gandhara Art in Pakistan. For his publication of Magnificent Pakistan, Zhang was conferred the honor of the President Award and met by the former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
