C. TEST is a new standardized test of Chinese as the second foreign language developed by Chinese Proficiency Test Center of BLCU after HSK. The aim of this book is to introduce this new test to examinees, units that are using this test and other people concerned.
Since HSK has been widely recognized as an authoritative test measuring people’s proficiency of Chinese, why do we need to develop another test of Chinese?
As we all know, HSK is designed to test the language abilities of foreign students to meet their needs when they came to china for study and upon their graduation. Though it can also be used to evaluate the language proficiency of general learners, it mainly serves the students at school, as is reflected in the overall design of the test, selection of language material and patterns of exercises. In recent year, we’ve been making conscious efforts to widen the scope of language material used in the test to meet the needs of examinees that are not school students, for we have realized the diversity of examinees. With China exerting a more important role in international business, more and more foreigners become interested in China. For these people, learning and using Chinese become a necessity. Nowadays, quite many foreigners are learning Chinese for practical purposes, such as job hunting or graduate study in China. Being able to use Chinese in their daily life and work becomes their goal.
Moreover, after China joined WTO, the international business between China and world soared, so is the number of the foreign funded companies in China as well as Chinese funded companies in foreign countries. Accordingly, the need for foreign employees has become acute. Therefore, the need for a new practical test of Chinese, which evaluates people’s abilities of using Chinese in daily life and work under such international environment, has become urgent.
The publication of this book is to help people gain a thorough knowledge of C.TEST, so that it can best serve the examinees and the society.
