Preface

This is a set of Chinese textbooks which are designed for those who have already studied basic Chinese. The set includes 70 stories in two volumes that should take around 220 hours to complete learning.

Basing on the following principles logic, we have compiled this textbook:

1. Most teachers of Chinese adopt the method of speaking first, followed by writing and reading. Typically, they rely on PINYIN as the measure of reading and writing, focus on teaching daily speaking expressions, and then move the students on to learning Chinese characters. After this stage, although the students can start basic communications, they still tend to stay at a very low level of understanding of the Chinese language as gaining this knowledge typically requires a good understanding of the characters, which forms the foundation of the language. Therefore, there is a need for a textbook that mainly contains paragraphs, that facilitates the systematic study of the characters, and also promotes the ability to build words in Chinese. From there, the learning process and skills can be expanded into more complex studies that provide the students with the ability to elucidate themes and compose sentences and paragraphs.
2. Experience has shown that students learning short stories is an effective method for acquiring Chinese language skills, particularly as a means to introduce the language in both spoken and written forms. Stories provide a more realistic and complete scene and construct specific semantic associations, while also giving better and more accurate choice of words. It is commonly agreed that the best strategy for learning Chinese is to learn words in a phrase, then to link phrases into a sentence, followed by composing sentences into paragraphs. Using stories is the best way of applying this strategy.
3. How to attract the students is a basic but critical factor when teaching a new language. Therefore, the stories have been developed carefully with this basic principle in mind and have been refined over many years of teaching.

  本书针对汉语初学者设计,分为两册,每册各包含35个幽默小故事,每课课文都配有生动有趣的插图,另页标注拼音方便初学者理解和诵读。课后的句型例解和生词注解可以帮助学习者掌握学习重点和难点,课后练习主要考查学习者对内容的理解和把握,并通过复述的形式锻炼学习者的口头表达能力。
  本书作者长期执教于海外,具有丰富的对外汉语教学经验.在选取课文材料时充分考虑到了中外文化的差异,尽量选取带有文化普遍性的故事,使初学汉语的外国人容易理解,感觉不到障碍,在轻松幽默的气氛中学会汉语的表达方式。


序言

这是一套专门为有一定汉语基础的学生编写的初中级汉语教材,分两册,共70个幽默小故事,设计学习时间为220小时。
基于以下理念,我们编写了这套教材:
1.目前的对外汉语教学绝大部分都是采用“先语后文”的方法。具体说,就是先通过以拼音为主要认读和书写手段,学习一般性的日常交际口语,然后进入汉字阶段。在学完第一阶段后,学生虽然会一些简单的交际,但对以汉字为载体的汉语的认识还停留在非常肤浅的阶段。此时,他们都急需一本以语段为主要内容的教材,来比较系统地学习汉字,来了解和认识汉语的构词法,来熟悉和掌握成段表达以及汉语的起承转合的语言技巧。
2.小故事是学习语言的一个非常好的形式。一个小故事能提供一个完整的场景,能构架特定的语义关联,能为词语的精确运用提供选择的条件。关于学习汉语的策略我们都有这样的共识:应该把汉字放在词语中学,把词语放在句子中学,把句子放在成段的表达中学。故事的学习就是实践这一策略的最佳途径。
3.趣味性是语言学习过程中不可或缺的原则之一。这些幽默风趣的小故事,是编者在多年教学过程中,精心选择和编写出来的。
对使用本书的几点建议:
1.在学习70个故事之前,编者为使用者提供了100个常用汉字。这100个常用汉字,基本参照目前普遍使用的词频统计资料,也有小部分是通过对本书70个小故事的字频统计而有所取舍的。这些汉字是故事中出现频率最高的,在开始学习这70个小故事之前,编者建议先通过各种形式,让学习者熟练掌握这些汉字,达到能认能写的程度。
